Dholera, Gujarat Tata Electronics is planning two additional semiconductor fabs in Dholera, Gujarat as part of a long-term strategy to cater to global chip demand, with Taiwan’s PSMC as a partner for the ₹91,000-crore first phase.
The first fab is expected to produce chips by 2026, with a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month at peak capacity, focusing on chips for power management circuits, display drivers, microcontrollers, and AI.
Expansion Phases & Local Ecosystem
Next phases for additional fabs may begin in five to seven years, with decisions on technology nodes and partnerships depending on the performance of the first fab and global demand.
Tata Electronics is developing a residential facility for 4,000-5,000 employees and working with suppliers to establish a local supply-chain ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturing.
Broader Semiconductor Strategy
Tata's broader semiconductor strategy includes a ₹27,000 crore assembly and testing unit in Assam, expected to begin high-volume manufacturing by 2025, focusing on key technologies like wire bond, flip chip, and advanced packaging systems.
