Tata Group to Set up Semiconductor Factory in Dholera

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran announced that the company is close to finalising a deal for a semiconductor fabrication unit in Gujarat’s Dholera. The unit is expected to be commissioned by 2024.

Semiconductor Fabrication Unit by Tata Group

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said that the company is on the verge of giving final shape to the semiconductor fabrication unit in Gujarat’s Dholera, which is expected to start operations by 2024 in a short span of time.

“We are in the final stages of negotiations and we have planned to start work by 2024,” Chandrasekaran said at a summit. He also highlighted Tata’s commitment to enhancing the technological infrastructure in the state.

Ambitious Battery Storage Factory

The summit, which focused on Tata’s commitment to advancing the technological infrastructure in the state, also unveiled the company’s ambitious plans to start construction of a 20 gigawatt battery storage factory in Gujarat in the next two months. With an investment of around 130 billion rupees ($1.58 billion), the lithium-ion cell factory signed in June as a preliminary deal is aligned with Tata’s vision to contribute to the country’s electric vehicle supply chain.

EV Tech Home in Sanand

The memorandum of understanding between Tata’s unit Agratas Energy Storage Solutions and the Gujarat government suggested that the plant located in Sanand in north Gujarat will start work in less than three years. Highlighting Tata’s commitment to electric vehicle technology, Chandrasekaran said, “Sanand is becoming our EV tech home. We are expanding our capacity to meet the growing demand for EVs.

Other Key Projects

Giving updates on other important projects, Chandrasekaran announced the ongoing construction of the C295 defence aircraft in Vadodara, followed by the start of work in Dholera. He expressed satisfaction over the progress, saying, “The work is going on with full enthusiasm.”

Tata's Legacy in Gujarat

Chandrasekaran acknowledged the special significance of Gujarat for the Tata group, mentioning its presence in the state since 1939 with eight ventures starting from Tata Chemicals. Currently, 21 companies of the Tata group have a strong presence in Gujarat, employing more than 50,000 people.
